13. Merlion Park
The Merlion is Singapore’s very own iconic mythical creature, with noble roots in Singapore’s origin story. Part-lion and part-fish, it represents the island’s long-time status as a fishing village in the Straits of Malaya, as well as the ‘lion’ that Sang Nila Utama is said to have spotted when landing on these very shores centuries ago, resulting in the name ‘Singapura’ (‘lion city’ in Sanskrit).
